Congresses of the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan

Known in the public and political life of Azerbaijan for its authority and strength, its accurate ideological line, its role as a guardian of national values, its successful development of international relations, and its organization in accordance with modern world standards, the Azerbaijan National Independence Party of Azerbaijan entered the political arena on the eve of the restoration of independence – on October 15, 1991 – when the State television reported on the declaration of the Organization Committee regarding the establishment of the party, and a day later this declaration was published in the trial issue of the “Millat” newspaper.

Thus, a new era launched in Azerbaijan’s political life with the laying of the foundation of a multiparty system.

After the founding congress on July 3-4, 1992, NIPA (AMIP) was officially registered by the Ministry of Justice on July 17, 1992 as the first political party in Azerbaijan. The National Independence Party of Azerbaijan has held 13 congresses so far, and new chairmen have been elected five times. A number of party members had resigned over elapsed time, they were assigned to higher positions afterwards. These figures are: ex-prime minister Novruz Mammadov, former deputy prime minister Elchin Afandiyev, deputy prime minister Ali Ahmadov, the ambassador and former minister of Foreign Affairs Vilayat Guliyev, the former state counsellor Gabil Huseinly, the former head of the executive power of Khatai district Gunduz Jalilov, the former chairman of the Copyright Agency of Azerbaijan Abutalib Samadov, the chairman of the State Committee on the Work with Religious Institutions Mubariz Gurbanly, the director of the Institute of Economy of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Science) Nazim Imanov, the chairman of Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan Farhad Mammadov, former deputy minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Recourses Novruz Guliyev, former chairman of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions Ramin Bayramly, the head director of the Institute of Inforamtion Technology of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences) Rasim Aliguliyev and others can be shown as examples. Moreover, the individuals who had previously held higher official positions also joined the party. The former president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science Eldar Salayev, the fomer minister of the Ministry of Education Firudin Jalilov, and ex member of parliament Yusif Baghirzade can be shown as examples.
